Low Sensory Spaces

Sensory Spaces with YDAN

YDAN’s Low Sensory Spaces make community events more accessible, welcoming and inclusive for young people with disability. Created and designed by young people with disability, these spaces offer a calm environment to rest, regulate and reset, enabling greater participation at festivals, in conferences and at community activations.
Quiet zones, chill-out spaces and low sensory rooms are not just dark spaces with fidgets, they’re about safety, support and dignity. Our peer-led team, made up of young people with disability, understands firsthand what a truly safe space means.
Each space is equipped with sensory tools, mindfulness activities and noise-cancelling equipment, and is staffed by trained peers who prioritise safety, support and dignity.

What They Support:

  • Inclusive participation – increases engagement for young people with disability
  • Safety & regulation – space to calm, reset and rejoin activities
  • Supportive environment – curated equipment and trained staff presence

    Impact & commitment:

In 2025, YDAN delivered over 20 Low Sensory Spaces across the Perth metro area, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees who reported increased access and inclusion. Each activation creates meaningful paid opportunities for young people with disability and reflects our youth-led approach to accessibility.
Activities are tailored to each event and can include mindfulness exercises, arts and creative activities, sensory tools and structured engagement strategies.

In addition to Low Sensory Spaces, we provide Sensory Seeking Spaces, interactive, hands-on environments with tailored activities that encourage movement, engagement and regulation for young people who benefit from sensory input.
